About Dan PDF Print E-mail
Dan McKee has an extensive background public service, business and non-profit organizations.
He has owned and operated successful small businesses in the Blackstone Valley for the past 30 years, always with a focus on providing a high level of service to customers.
For over twenty-five years he has been a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland-Lincoln, serving as past president of the executive board and chairman of the endowment committee.

During his time on the Cumberland Town Council, Dan developed his skills as a basketball coach, coaching diverse groups of boys and girls at all levels, culminating in two State AAU Basketball Champions in 1998 and 2000.  These teams epitomized Dan’s “share the ball philosophy” that can be used to help improve any organization.
Most recently, he has served Cumberland as its mayor for three terms. His record is one of strong fiscal management, visionary education reform initiatives, thoughtful economic development and protection of Cumberland’s open spaces. Dan worked quickly with state and federal officials in the aftermath of Cumberland’s historic spring flooding to minimize the damage; and he is steering Cumberland through Rhode Island’s unprecedented economic downturn.
In 2009 and 2010 he lead the successful fight to pass a fair and equitable education funding policy, a victory that will lead directly to $4 million additional state dollars per year for Cumberland public schools.
Educated at Cumberland High School, Assumption College and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Dan lives with his wife Susan.  Their son Matt and daughter Kara will be back in Cumberland frequently to help out with the campaign!
